A Navajo silver belt buckle set

with 8 square and 6 round turquoise stones

by Alice Platero, circa 1970’s-1980’s

A marvelous example of fine craftsmanship and attention to detail, this buckle is set all the way around its perimeter with high quality turquoise stones; 8 square blueish-green stones which are likely either Blue Gem or Royston, Nevada alternating with 6 round, dark-green stones which might be from the King’s Manassa mine in Southern Colorado.

The stones are bordered all the way around by applied silver “raindrops” some of which have been beautifully stamped. The belt opening is decorated with silver twisted wire. The buckle measures 2 1/4” in width by 2 1/4” height and weighs 40 grams or 1 3/8 ounces. It can accomodate a belt of up to 3/4” width. It is signed “A. Platero” and marked “Sterling” on the back and is in excellent original condition.
