A Cartier “Santos 100” stainless-steel watch, large model, 2005

We are the original owners of this marvelous, iconic watch. We purchased it brand new at the Cartier boutique at Biltmore Fashion Park in Scottsdale, Arizona in September, 2005 and though it is now over 9 years of age it is still in essentially-new original condition having only been worn a mere handful of times and then always very carefully. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect condition, we would say that this piece is a 9.8. To turn a microscope on it, so to speak, there is a small amount of wear to the alligator-skin strap and a slight particle and lubricant accumulation inside the closure. There is also one extremely tiny indentation at the top mid-right of the stainless steel face and a few very slight scratches around the perimeter of the face and on the buckle closure which could all be easily buffed out, if ever desired.

Official description and specifications from Cartier.com

“Louis Cartier created the Santos watch in 1904, sealing his friendship with the aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. The famous aviator's wish was granted: he could check the time while flying. The dial's rounded angles and exposed screws made this an iconic timepiece. Cartier marked the centenary of the watch with the introduction of a steel version.

Steel case, steel octagonal crown set with a faceted synthetic spinel, sapphire crystal, silvered opaline dial, Roman numerals, luminescent sword-shaped black oxidized-steel hands, alligator-skin strap, specific Santos 100 steel double adjustable deployant buckle, mechanical movement with self-winding Cartier caliber 049, water-resistant to 100 meters / 330 feet. Case dimensions: 51.1 mm x 41.3 mm, 10.34 mm thickness.”

The fortunate purchaser of this exceptional watch will receive it precisely as it originally came from the Cartier boutique; packed in its original Cartier red leatherette box, which is in pristine condition, accompanied by all its original Cartier documentation (registration, manual, paper sales receipt and folder) and its original Cartier soft, grey suede traveling box.

This elegant, classic and historic watch would be a wonderful and rewarding piece to own and cherish for an entire lifetime and, while it certainly looks wonderful on a Man, it would be especially interesting, daring and bold on a  Woman. For purposes of comparison, as of this writing, The Santos 100 stainless-steel large model currently retails at Cartier for $7,300 USD.
