A Modernist bronze sculpture

by Juan Hamilton, 1975

The contemporary New Mexico sculptor Juan Hamilton

(American, b.1946) is perhaps best known for his long association with another great New Mexico modern artist, Painter Georgia O’Keeffe. Hamilton was variously and notoriously (Due to their 58-year age difference) O’keeffe’s assistant, companion, muse, lover, colleague, confidant, agent and business manager over a thirteen-year period from their first meeting in 1973 until her death in 1986.  O’Keeffe herself was a huge admirer of Hamilton’s sculptures and did all she could to encourage him to create them.  Nevertheless, they are quite rare as Juan was never able to make very many of them. This piece is a black-lacquered globular abstract form cast in heavy bronze. It measures 8 3/4” in height and 10 1/2” in Diameter. It is in a very small edition of seven and is marked “4/7” and signed and dated “Juan 75” on the bottom. It is in excellent original condition with one or two minor scratches.

Price $7,500
