A superb, vintage Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild Navajo silver cuff bracelet, circa 1940’s

Here we go again with yet another extraordinary example of some of the finest Navajo silver jewelry ever produced by the distinguished, anonymous (But many of them very famous) silversmiths of the renowned Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild. To find out more about The Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild please click here.

Guild silverwork is some of the finest Navajo silver ever made and it was made by many of the greatest Navajo and Pueblo jewelers ever, from Guild co-founders Ambrose Roanhorse and Chester Yellowhair to Kenneth Begay, Allan and Ivan Kee, Louis Lomay, Charlie Bitsui, Jack Adakai and others. Guild regulations forbid individual makers from signing their names to NACG pieces, only the Guild’s famous “Horned Sun” hallmark and, occasionally, the word “NAVAJO” could be used.

This wonderful cuff bracelet features three separate bands of beautifully-applied stamp work decoration along the entire length of its shank. The outermost of these bands are uniquely stamped with so-called “end-of-the-file” punches, a difficult to execute and very attractive technique. The bracelet measures 3/4” in width along its entire length tapering very slightly at the terminals. The inner circumference end to end is 5 1/2” and the gap between the terminals is 7/8” for an total interior circumference of 6 3/8”. It weighs a very satisfying 62 grams or 2 1/4 ounces.

The bracelet is in excellent original vintage condition and it is properly signed on the interior with The Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild’s famous “Horned Sun” hallmark. This bracelet is an outstanding and easy-to-wear historic piece of the finest Navajo silver of all time. A piece to always treasure and be proud of for its beauty, quality and distinguished lineage.
