A lovely vintage Navajo silver repouseed and twisted-wire

cuff bracelet, circa 1940’s-1950’s

This is an exceptionally finely-crafted and very elaborately constructed Navajo silver cuff bracelet made by a master silversmith who was in complete command of his craft. The bracelet is made of two long sections of silver which have been repouseed along their entire lengths and then joined together with a thick piece of twisted silver wire running between them down the middle. The outside repousseed sections and the center strip of twisted silver wire were all then decorated from end-to-end with exceptionally well-rendered, old-style stampwork designs.

The bracelet’s terminals are finished off with flat tapered silver “caps” or bars on each end which is a specific technique that we have long associated with the bracelets of the great 20th Century Navajo master jeweler, Ambrose Roanhorse. While we cannot definitively attribute this piece to Roanhorse, we can certainly say that the design skills and technical brilliance it displays are on a par with his creations.

The bracelet measures approximately 1 1/4” wide along its length. The interior circumference end-to-end is 5 3/8" with a 1 1/2" gap between the terminals for a total interior circumference of 6 7/8”. The bracelet weighs a substantial 61 grams or 2 1/8 ounces and it is in excellent vintage condition. This is a unique and extremely handsome piece that will be very satisfying to wear.
