A striking and finely-executed vintage Navajo tufa-cast silver belt buckle, circa 1930’-40’s

This lovely and graceful buckle is the type of piece which one could wear comfortably almost every day in nearly every circumstance. It is very beautifully crafted with a light, airy openwork design composed of eighteen silver rays radiating out from a central medallion and bordered all the way around the circumference by a nicely-scalloped and beveled edge.

To craft such a complex design from a single continuous pour of molten silver in a carved tufa mold is quite an achievement and speaks very highly of the great skill of the silversmith who made the buckle.

The buckle measures 3 1/2” in width and 2 1/2” in height and it weighs a very comfortable 48 grams or 1 3/4 ounces. The buckle is in excellent original condition and it will accommodate a belt of up to 1 5/8” in width.
