“Untitled, Still Life” by

Leal Mack, circa 1940’s - 50’s

A beautifully rendered still-life painting by the fine Taos painter, Leal Mack (1892-1962). Mack was a student of the renowned American painter and illustrator N.C. Wyeth at Wyeth’s Brandywine Academy in Chadd’s Ford, Pennsylvania after which he worked as an illustrator for years before moving to Taos to paint full time. The influence of Wyeth’s precise and luminous style is clearly evident in this painting.

It is oil on canvas, 16” by 20” and the framed dimensions are 18” by 21 ½”. It is signed “Leal Mack” at the lower right and is in excellent original condition with some moderate cracquelure at the lower left. The painting is framed in a white gold-gilded Modernist frame by Goldleaf Framemakers of Santa Fe. There is an old paper label on the stretcher bar from The Bent Gallery of Taos, New Mexico.
