A large Beatrice Mandelman

mixed-media collage, circa 1950’s

Beatrice Mandelman (1912-1998) was one of the foremost members of the Taos Modernist art group.

She moved to Taos from New York City with her fellow artist husband, painter Louis Ribak, in 1944 and remained there until her death.

This piece is characteristic of her most original and finest abstract work. It is composed of pieces of cut out paper which are then painted with acrylic paints, drawn on with graphite pencil and then re-assembled.

The piece itself measures 22” by 17” and the framed dimensions are 26” by 20 1/2“. It is signed Mandelman” in pencil at the lower left and signed again “B. Mandelman Taos, N.M.” on the verso at the upper center. The collage is in excellent original condition and was obtained directly from the Beatrice Mandelman Estate in Taos, New Mexico.

The custom-made frame by Goldleaf Framemakers of Santa Fe is made of hand-carved and beveled maple finished with a fine, light whitewash and uses UV-protective “Museum” glass.
