A wonderful, channel-inlaid, silver Zuni pin/pendant in the form of an Appaloosa horse by Joe Zunie, circa 1960’s

This piece has presence with a capital "P". It was made most likely in the 1960's by the very talented Zuni jeweler, Joe Zunie, and, it is BIG, measuring 3.5 inches in height and 4 inches in width. It appears from a close examination of the back of the piece that it might have originally been a bolo.

This piece weighs 66.5 grams/2.35 ounces. The inlay work is exceptional and consists of mother-of-pearl, turquoise, black jet, orange spondylus and an unknown, yellow-colored shell which forms the saddle. The detail is remarkable; Zunie even hand-etched most of the stones to give the design more realism. The piece is in excellent condition and it is signed "Joe Zunie" and marked with Zunie's "JZ" insignia twice on the back.
